Replacement Double Glazed, Energy Efficient Window & Door Installation Contractors, Wickford

Double glazing is one of the best ways to keep your home warm, and reduce fuel bills, but you may still experience problems in certain circumstances. Double glazing exists in just about every home, retail and office building in areas like Wickford, Essex, providing excellent insulation and a comfortable living space. Older double glazing however, is prone to deterioration of one kind or another, and will show signs of this, usually in one or two units initially. At Essex Trade Windows Ltd, we always recommend to customers that rather than embarking on a gradual replacement of each window one at a time, they have a completely new double glazing installation. This may sound drastic, but there are several good reasons for our recommendation. If customers are hesitant we suggest they wait a while longer, when they will more often than not experience the break down of every unit on a particular elevation. Replacing each unit as it becomes necessary means for instance, you may spend £150 6 times on an elevation, then when other problems materialise, and you need to have the full double glazing replaced – you have just wasted nearly £1,000.

This common sense strategy has saved our customers a substantial amount of money in the long run, as double glazing, especially older double glazing, generally has a 25 year life. After this time a number of things can start to go wrong throughout the system, even if not yet visible.

The River Crouch and Wickford Memories

There is a charming old black and white photograph on a website dedicated to the town of Wickford, Essex, showing a small group of young girls in white pinafore dresses and straw hats. The year 1910, the location Swan lane in Wickford and the reason for the picture is the large flooded area behind the girls. This has been a bit of a reoccurring theme and a Pathe news clip from 1958 shows people wading around in water and stranded vehicles after a deluge of rainfall. A similar situation arose in1960, prompting cries of ‘enough is enough’, and plans were put into action to provide a solution by altering the course of the River Crouch, although this may be a temporary measure depending on planned future developments.

The Wickford river, which runs from West to East through Essex, was channelised and straightened for the section that flows past Wickford Town Centre. Parts of the River Crouch are of international importance with its variety of wildlife including wild fowl and waders, who are attracted by its mild climate and food sources.
